WSU AccessID Services for WSU Graduates
(and students not currently registered)

Contents

Are you graduating? Taking a break from classes for a term or two? Are you wondering, "What happens to my AccessID?, Can I still get into WSU Pipeline and use other computing services and resources at Wayne State?, How long will I be able to use my WSU E-mail account?"

Well, here's the full story in a nutshell.

How long can I use my AccessID?

After you graduate from Wayne State, you can use your WSU AccessID and password for up to four academic terms to access the same computing services and resources you could access as a WSU student (see below).

If you are still a WSU student and don't register for classes, you can continue to use AccessID services also, for four consecutive terms of not registering for classes. After four terms of not registering, the AccessID is frozen and kept on record for reactivation later should you return to Wayne State University.

What AccessID services and resources can I use until the 4-term time limit is up?

¹ As a WSU student, you can submit a request to keep your Directory information private, by signing a form with the Registar's Office.

² As a graduate, you will continue to receive some messages sent from Wayne State offices while your WSU AccessID E-mail address is active. WSU Bulk Mail services are automated and integrated with the University’s information systems, so individual e-mail addresses cannot be removed before the time limit is up.

Do I need to do anything?

No, and yes.

After you graduate from Wayne State or during the time when you are taking a break from classes for a term or two, you have the convenience of using your WSU AccessID (e.g., xy6789) AND your AccessID password as long as they are active. Also, if you use an E-mail Name in your WSU E-mail address (e-mail_name@wayne.edu), that also will continue to work.

There are several things you can do while your AccessID is still active, though:

  1. Forward your WSU E-mail to another e-mail address that you use regularly. For instructions on how to Set Mail Forwarding (or update your personal e-mail address if it has changed), click the link under Related topics below.
  2. Archive e-mail messages on your AccessID E-mail account by printing them or forwarding them to another e-mail address. You can access WSU WebMail to do this (at webmail.wayne.edu).
  3. Unsubscribe from any online discussion/mailing lists (e.g., LISTSERVs) you joined using your WSU E-mail address. Then re-subscribe using your current e-mail address.
  4. Copy or download any materials you want to keep from your Blackboard courses.

NOTE: A WSU AccessID stays with each Wayne State student and employee for life. Anyone who returns to Wayne State at any time to take classes, start another degree program, or get a job will have the same AccessID reactivated.

Where can I get help?

For help with your WSU AccessID or password, using any of the services it authorizes Wayne State students and employees to use, or saving e-mail on your WSU E-mail account, contact the Computing & Information (C&IT) Help Desk at (313) 577-4778 or helpdesk@wayne.edu.
