Banner Operational Data Store (ODS) to be upgraded
The ODS (Operational Data Store) provides a stable and organized
view of data in the Banner System for efficient operational reporting.
To ensure ongoing ODS maintenance and support from the software
vendor, SunGard Higher Education, Computing & Information Technology (C&IT)
is upgrading the ODS software to version 3.1 during the first quarter of 2008.
Below are answers to a few significant questions that report viewers
and writers in WSU's Administrative Reporting environment may have
as C&IT prepares for the ODS upgrade.
What will be the effect on WSU report viewers?
- None. Those who use Cognos ReportNet to view WSU's
Standard Certified Reports (SCR) will see no change in the
reports or how they are accessed. C&IT has tested existing
SCRs and confirmed they are working correctly, as part of
the ODS 3.1 implementation. Staff will work diligently to resolve
any SCR problems that may be encounted after the upgrade.
What will be the effect on Cognos report writers?
- None. An additional C&IT communication for report writers,
to be released shortly, provides technical details about ODS 3.1
access, security, and metadata, in addition to the availability
of new ODS version 3.1 documentation.
Will there be an effect on report writers using Microsoft Access
or another ODBC application?
- Perhaps. Some changes may occur for report writers who
develop WSU reports from the ODS using applications other than
Cognos'. An additional C&IT communication to report writers, to
be released shortly, will describe these possible changes in
more detail and provide recommendations for testing how these
changes might have an effect on the reports they have written. A
reasonable period of time will be available to test and verify reports.
