The C&IT Help Desk has received numerous reports from Wayne State students, faculty, and staff about "spear phishing" attempts: e-mail messages designed to trick the recipient into replying with their password, account number, birth date, or other personal information. The e-mail messages claim to be from the "Wayne Webmail team" or the "Wayne messaging center." Learn more about these fake messages.

For most of the United States and Canada, Daylight Saving Time (DST) will end one week later on November 4, 2007. Although electronic devices set to change time according to the the old DST schedule could be affected, this is not a concern in most cases because the DST patch was applied to most systems in March.

Ameritech has added a new overlay area code, 947, to the existing 248 area code. This means two different codes will serve the same geographic region at the same time. As a result, all telephone customers, including those with telephone numbers in the pre-existing area code, will be required to dial area codes for local calls—the new effective date for this change is September 7.
