What is it?

The Wayne State FTP server is a file repository that provides access to a wide variety of current software via a high-speed campus network.

Note: The WSU FTP server is updated twice a day, so you always get the most current versions of software.

The WSU FTP server operates as an open service to Wayne State affiliates and to the greater Internet community

Connecting to the WSU FTP server

For a connection using an FTP client (if you need an FTP client, visit C&IT Help Desk Supported Software):

  1. Set the server name to ftp.wayne.edu
  2. Log in:
    • From outside the WSU campus network – Log in using the word anonymous for the user name and your full e-mail address for the password.
    • From inside the WSU campus network – Log in using your WSU AccessID for the user name and your AccessID password for the password.

FTP resources from other universities

Wayne State has a high-speed link to other educational institutions that provide open FTP resources, often with different software offerings than the WSU server. Use these resources to get software that WSU does not provide. You can log in to them with an anonymous connection using a Web browser or an FTP client. We share a high-speed link with the following research institutions that provide public FTP servers:
